Twitter's Tips Feature Now Supports Bitcoin Payments
Twitter has finally rolled out its Tip Jar feature (now called Tips) globally with more payment options available, including cryptocurrency support.
Twitter announced Tips for English-speaking users back in May to let Twitter users support their favorite authors and creators financially right on the social media platform.
The company explained that users have long left links to their payment profiles in their tweets and bios. Therefore, the Tips feature should make supporting creators financially easier since it offers one fixed place in the profile that people can use to donate money. Now, there will be a link in the profile to platforms where followers can support creators.
Twitter users will be able to send money to authors who have the Tips feature activated using a dedicated icon displayed in their profile. When you click on it, you will need to select the payments service or platform to transfer the money. The available options are Bandcamp, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, Razorpay, Wealthsimple Cash, Venmo.
Twitter also lets users send money to content creators using Bitcoin. You can send Bitcoins using the Strike payment app built on the Bitcoin Lightning Network.
Twitter noted that it does not take a commission for payments. Tips already works on iOS devices, and Android owners will be able to use it in the coming weeks.
At the same time, the feature will only be available to users over 18 years old.
