WhatsApp has been working on message reactions for some time now, with evidence of the feature's development first appearing last summer. According to WABetainfo, the chat platform is planning to add message reactions on iOS and Android as early as the next beta, meaning that the feature's development is nearing its final stage.
WABetainfo shared screenshots of what message reactions will look like for iOS and Android WhatsApp users:
As you can see in the screenshot, the feature will work similarly to the one available on Telegram. After tapping or long pressing on the message, WhatsApp users will see a row of emoji right above it. At the moment, the list of reactions includes six emoji: thumbs up, red heart, face with tears of joy, face with open mouth, crying face, and folded hands. When a reaction is selected, it will appear at the bottom of the message.
WABetaInfo notes that message reactions will also be end-to-end encrypted, just like messages shared on WhatsApp.
