Twitter Introduces Tip Jar to Let Users Send and Receive Tips

The popular social media platform Twitter has added a new feature for English-speaking users called Tip Jar, which allows you to send money or "tips" to authors you like and would love to support financially, the company announced in its blog.

So far, only English-speaking users of iOS and Android operating systems can send donations, whereas a limited number of "creators, journalists, experts, and nonprofits" will be able to accept money. The blog post announcing the new feature notes that the list will be expanded in the near future.

The feature supports various payment options, including PayPal, Venmo, Patreon, Cash App, and Bandcamp. The new feature is part of a broader effort by the company to create more features for social media monetization and move to a subscription model.

"Tip Jar is an easy way to support the incredible voices that make up the conversation on Twitter. This is a first step in our work to create new ways for people to receive and show support on Twitter – with money," reads the company's statement.

As previously stated on the social network, Twitter plans to increase the base of daily active users of the microblogging service to 315 million by the end of 2023.
