Google Search Now Automatically Blurs Explicit Images
Google is rolling out an enhanced SafeSearch feature that automatically blurs explicit images, including those depicting violence and adult content, within its search results. This update is set to become the default setting for all users globally.
Initially introduced as a part of Google's Family SafeSearch, this feature aims to create a safer browsing environment by ensuring users are shielded from encountering explicit imagery accidentally. Originally designed for parental control purposes, SafeSearch has evolved to serve a broader user base.
The new enhancement will automatically identify and blur explicit content across Google Search. Google's efforts to provide a more secure online experience are evident from this move, which aligns with two other recent policy updates concerning personal information in search results and the removal of revenge porn.
Users retain the flexibility to adjust or deactivate the SafeSearch blur setting in their account configurations, unless the setting has been locked by a guardian or a school network administrator.
