Twitter Is Testing Its Notes Feature for Long-Form Posts
Social media platform Twitter has begun testing a new feature called Twitter Notes that will let Twitter users write long-form posts that exceed the current 280-character limit. Twitter users will also get more editing and formatting options as well as be able to add media files, embedded tweets, and links to their articles.
In the timeline, notes will look like a link preview that you click on to read the entire note. Like tweets, notes will have their own link and can be tweeted, retweeted, sent to private messages, liked, and added to favorites.
Previously, the authors of long stories had to create threads – a series of tweets on a single topic. Besides, users were always looking for ways to expand Twitter's character limit to fit more text. Twitter Notes will be an ideal alternative for those who need to write long tweets because they will be able to share their thoughts directly on Twitter.
Even though the new feature offers more freedom in terms of the number of characters one can use to write notes, they still have several limitations. For example, the title may have no more than 100 characters, and the text may have no more than 2,500 words. The note itself can be edited after it has been published.
According to TechCrunch, the integration of the new Notes feature could be the most significant change to the social network since the company increased the character limit for posts from 140 characters to 280 in 2017.
The feature is currently being tested among a limited number of users in the US, UK, Canada, and Ghana. Several writers have already shared their notes, which you can read here, here, and here.
