Tesla Sets a New Delivery Record in Q1 of 2022
Tesla set a new record for quarterly vehicle deliveries – its first-quarter 2022 electric car delivery report exceeded all analysts' expectations who predicted that the company would deliver 309,158 vehicles in January-March.
While the entire global automotive industry suffers from a shortage of components, Tesla managed to produce 305,407 and deliver 310,048 electric vehicles in the first quarter of this year, a 68% increase over the same period last year.
The company's CEO Elon Musk attributed this success to the "outstanding work by Tesla team & key suppliers," noting that the entire first quarter was "exceptionally difficult" due to supply chain interruptions and China's zero COVID policy.
The Model 3 and Model Y were Tesla's best-selling electric vehicles, accounting for 295,324 deliveries in the first quarter of 2022. The remaining 14,724 sold electric cars came from the new Model S and Model X.
Tesla's quarterly deliveries are one of the company's key metrics. They are also considered an indicator of overall demand for electric vehicles worldwide.
The company was reportedly forced to suspend production at its Shanghai facility in late March because of quarantine restrictions imposed by the city's authorities to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
