NVIDIA Teams Up With Microsoft to Build a New AI Supercomputer
NVIDIA and Microsoft plan to create one of the world's most powerful supercomputers focused on artificial intelligence. NVIDIA announced the beginning of a multi-year collaboration in a statement. It will be designed to handle the massive computational workloads needed to train, deploy, and scale artificial intelligence.
The computer will be based on Microsoft's Azure cloud infrastructure combined with tens of thousands of high-end NVIDIA H100 and A100 GPUs as well as the Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking platform for data processing. In turn, Microsoft will contribute its ND- and NC-series virtual machines, and NVIDIA's AI Enterprise platform will tie everything together. It is reportedly the first public cloud to feature NVIDIA's advanced AI stack.
According to NVIDIA, this will allow more enterprises to train, deploy, and scale artificial intelligence, including large, state-of-the-art models. The company says that once the new cloud computer comes online, customers will be able to deploy thousands of GPUs in a single cluster to "train even the most massive large language models, build the most complex recommender systems at scale, and enable generative AI at scale."
"Our collaboration with Microsoft will provide researchers and companies with state-of-the-art AI infrastructure and software to capitalize on the transformative power of AI," said Manuvir Das, vice president of enterprise computing at NVIDIA.
The two companies will also collaborate on DeepSpeed, Microsoft's deep learning optimization software. A full set of NVIDIA AI workflows and software development kits will be available to Azure enterprise customers.
