New Spotify Patent Can Suggest Songs Based on Users Emotions
The streaming platform Spotify has received a patent for a technology that can analyze a user's voice to recommend more relevant music.
The service will determine your voice, gender, age, mood, environment in which you are, how many people around you, and even your accent to choose the most appropriate music.
The authors of the patent explain by listening out for background noises, such as birds chirping, printers, or traffic, it can determine whether you are at home, out for a walk, or even in an office. All these factors can more accurately recommend music to users.
Undoubtedly, many Spotify listeners will not want to be recorded by the program. The company said that having a patent for technology does not mean that it will be used in the future.
It is the latest in a long line of Spotify patents granted in recent months, including one for a karaoke feature that lets users overlay a music track with their vocals.
Previously, the company had already launched Spotify Running, technology tracking the pace and speed of a running person, heart rate, and even the weather — all to assemble the best playlist for running. Even though this information was collected solely with users' consent, most did not support the launch of such technology.
