Microsoft Permanently Disables Internet Explorer on Windows 10
Microsoft permanently disabled Internet Explorer on most versions of Windows 10 on February 14 this year. Users will be redirected to Microsoft Edge every time they try to launch Internet Explorer.
The latest Microsoft Edge update ensured that users would no longer be able to launch Internet Explorer 11 on most client versions of Windows 10, with the exception of Microsoft's Long-Term Servicing Channel for Windows 10. Internet Explorer 11 will also still run on special OS versions like Windows 10 China Government Edition.
The company will continue to support the technology that powers Internet Explorer – MSHTML and Trident engine. The MSHTML engine is still part of Windows 11 and is used to power IE mode in Microsoft Edge. The company said it would support IE mode in Edge until at least 2029.
Microsoft officially retired Internet Explorer last June.
