Microsoft to Stop Supporting Internet Explorer on Windows 10 in 2022

Microsoft will finally stop supporting the Internet Explorer browser in the summer of 2022, replacing it with the Microsoft Edge browser on new versions of Windows, although the company previously promised to support Internet Explorer until 2029.

“With Microsoft Edge capable of assuming this responsibility and more, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10,” reads the company’s blog post.

The company cites user data protection as one of the reasons for abandoning Internet Explorer in favor of Edge. Edge offers protection against phishing attacks and malware with Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. In addition, the Password Monitor function helps to track the leakage of confidential user data.

Internet Explorer appeared in 1995 and has become one of the main symbols and recognizable marks of the operating system from Microsoft. The development of new versions of the browser stopped in 2015. Microsoft Edge has become the main browser for new editions of Windows, but support for Internet Explorer is still ongoing.
