IEEE Approves a New Wireless Communication Standard Called Li-Fi

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has approved a new wireless data transmission standard that utilizes light technology. The new 802.11bb standard, known as Li-Fi (Light Fidelity), offers data transmission speeds up to 100 times faster than Wi-Fi by using light flickering to transmit data.

Experts highlight that the new standard offers fast, reliable, and secure connections. Li-Fi equipment is already being integrated into lighting systems in homes and offices, and the technology is being considered for applications such as streetlights and car headlights for data transmission.

However, Wi-Fi and 5G still have their advantages, as they can transmit data over longer distances and through opaque objects, which Li-Fi cannot.

The enhanced security of Li-Fi makes it more difficult for data interception, as light does not penetrate beyond walls, making data transmission more secure. The adoption of the 802.11bb standard will encourage electronic device manufacturers to actively incorporate Li-Fi technology into their products.
