Google Will Ask Users to Verify Suspicious Actions on Gmail to Enhance Security

Google has introduced new layers of protection for Gmail accounts, aiming to enhance security against unauthorized modifications. Users will now be prompted to confirm their identity when making certain changes, preventing unauthorized access.

The enhanced security will apply to the following actions:

  • Filters: Creating, editing, or importing filters.
  • Forwarding: Adding a new forwarding address along with POP/IMAP settings.
  • IMAP Access: Enabling IMAP access status in settings.

If the system detects potentially suspicious activity, it will require additional identity verification, such as entering a code from an SMS or secondary email. If verification fails, a notification requesting confirmation will be sent to trusted devices.

Users retain the flexibility to adjust or deactivate the SafeSearch blur setting in their account configurations, unless the setting has been locked by a guardian or a school network administrator.

This added security measure is rolling out to all Google Workspace users and regular Google account owners. The rollout has already begun and is expected to be completed within a few weeks.
