Donald Trump's Team Launched a Twitter Analog Called Gettr
The team of former US President Donald Trump launched a new social network called Gettr on July 1, announcing it as an alternative to the existing ones, Politico reported.
Gettr is led by former Trump spokesman Jason Miller. Tim Murtaugh, former Trump's campaign spokesperson, is also working as a consultant.
The new social network says its mission is "fighting cancel culture" and promoting common sense. The platform will be engaged in "defending free speech, challenging social media monopolies, and creating a true marketplace of ideas," the publication specified.
It is still unknown whether Trump will be personally involved in the platform's creation or even create an account there.
Registration in Gettr is extremely simple: you just need to come up with a nickname, enter a valid e-mail address, and indicate your date of birth. The app first appeared on Google and Apple app stores in mid-June and has been downloaded over a thousand times.
Politico noted that the interface of Gettr resembles Twitter. The maximum length of posts on the social media platform will be 777 characters, and the platform's users will be able to post videos up to three minutes and host live broadcasts. The new app also lets Twitter users import their real followers.
Twitter permanently banned Trump's account in January this year "due to the risk of further incitement of violence." The former president had 88 million followers on Twitter. This happened after supporters of the ex-president stormed the Capitol building in Washington due to disagreement with the election results.
Twitter was followed by Facebook, YouTube, and other online platforms. At the same time, Apple, Amazon, and Google removed the Parler app from their online stores, which the ex-president's supporters actively used.
Trump said that he did not intend to return to Twitter since the platform was not the same.
