OpenAI has unveiled a new feature in ChatGPT called "Canvas," designed to make working with texts and code more convenient. This update introduces a side-by-side interface where users can write, edit, and refine content, allowing for smoother collaboration between users and the AI.
The Canvas interface opens in a separate window next to the chat box, enabling users to manually adjust text or code or highlight sections for ChatGPT to suggest edits. This makes it simpler to modify specific portions of content, whether for refining emails or debugging code.
In a demo with TechCrunch, Product manager Daniel Levine demonstrated how Canvas works, showing how it can be used to fine-tune an email’s length or tone, and how the AI can add comments or explain sections of code when working on a Python API. With coding tasks, users can ask ChatGPT to review, add comments, or even suggest corrections directly in the interface.
Currently, Canvas is available in beta for ChatGPT Plus and Teams users, with plans to roll it out to Enterprise and Edu users. Once the beta testing phase is over, Canvas will be available for free users.
