Meta Is Testing a Paid Verification Scheme on Facebook and Instagram
Meta launched Meta Verified, a Twitter Blue-like paid subscription service that lets Facebook and Instagram users get a blue badge and access to a number of other features, including increased visibility, protection against impersonation, priority customer support, and more.
The service is already available in Australia and New Zealand and costs $11.99/month on web and $14.99/month on iOS and Android because of the app stores' commission on in-app purchases. The subscription will also be launched in other countries, but the exact timing and details have not been disclosed yet.
To sign up to become Meta Verified, users must be 18 or older and provide an official government-issued ID that matches the profile name and photo they have on Facebook or Instagram.
Businesses won't be able to apply for a Meta Verified badge just yet, Meta noted. Once verified, users can no longer change their profile name, username, date of birth, or profile photo without going through the verification process again.
